In2Steel partnering with JJack to lift houses

In2Steel recently partnered with JJack to lift seven government-owned properties in Fitzroy Crossing to a metre above the 100-year flood mark.

After floods devastated communities across Western Australia's far north In2Steel was commissioned by the Department of Communities Housing Authority to lift seven flooded homes in the Bungardi community outside Fitzroy Crossing. The ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie dumped record levels of rain along the Fitzroy River catchment, triggering devastating floods in Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding communities.

After months of planning and exploratory site visits the In2Steel team left Perth in April and spent seven weeks in Fitzroy Crossing securing and lifting the homes before the next rain season started. Phil Jenner, Managing Director of In2Steel and developer of the JJack system was directly involved in overseeing the project on site. He said, “It’s great to be involved in a community project like this and to see the JJack house lifting system being used for something so worthwhile. We look forward to coming back to continue lifting houses in other flooded communities.”

Bungardi community resident Judith said she felt reassured to know houses would be lifted ahead of the wet season. "Much better and much safer, it's really good now. [Residents] will be able to stay here now, and even during the flood if it comes down," she said.
